The “Despina” patisserie and its famous Millefeuille cake were born in the State of Zaire, today the Democratic Republic of Congo. In this far-away country Mrs. Despina Roullia and her husband produced “Roullia” biscuits. The delicious Millefeuille soon became a much loved favourite for both Greeks and Africans. This famous cake has helped ensure the success of the patisserie for over 15 years since the Despina family decided to return to their Greek origins. The brainchild of Chef Phillip Foss, EL Ideas offers contemporary cuisine in a setting unlike any other. Offering only 26 seats, the dining room is situated inside of the kitchen and offers guests an environment more akin to a laid back dinner party than what is generally associated with restaurants offering cutting edge cuisine. EL Ideas is a micro restaurant located on a back alley street in the little known Douglas Park neighborhood of Chicago. The name - in addition to being an homage to the elevated train system of Chicago (and many other meanings of “el”) is an abbreviation for Elevated Ideas in Cuisine and Dining.

El Pasaje offers traditional Mediterranean cuisine, highlighting the exceptional quality of the dishes but also giving space to the chef's innovative touch. The extensive menu offers a variety of choice: from the finest seafood to various fish dishes but includes also meat specialities. What is surprising is the diversity of the tapas: all excellently prepared and highly original. Local regional products are used a lot in order to honour the Spanish tradition and the extensive wine list includes the finest wines of the country. The tapas are served at the bar counter but there is also a small restaurant room further inside. The waiters' special recommendations and great atmosphere at the bar make trying delicious tapas there very inviting, while the restaurant room gives you the possibility to dine in a more secluded setting.
