I recently popped in for a coffee at a new café in my neighbourhood. The indoor/outdoor décor was one of the first things that caught my attention. In keeping with their organic, clean eating,"let food be thy medicine" vibe, the motif was very lush and green. A sanctuary of sorts.
The second thing I noticed was the incredibly noisy blender they were using front-of-house, completely shattering the rainforest-like serenity that the décor was lending itself to. I don’t mean to romanticise the notion of rainforests. There are certainly some noisy rainforest-dwelling birds out there, but none that compare to the sound of hard ice grinding through the blades of a blender as a 3-horsepower motor whirrs away.
If the machine was being used back-of-house, a fair amount of that noise would have been eliminated by the buffer created by the door and glass observation window into their kitchen. More often than not though, drink blenders (as opposed to culinary/food preparation blenders) are used front-of-house, behind the front counter. If you are using a blender without a sound cover, this means your customers are going to be exposed to those decibels. This makes for a less satisfying experience at your venue and also makes conversation and ordering more difficult.
Here at Sydney Commercial Kitchens, we sell a lot of blenders!
