New Xero data reveals the state of Australia’s small businesses

Global business platform Xero has released its latest data as part of the Xero Small Business Index that covers statistics from February to June 2023.

The Xero Small Business Index averaged 120 points in the first five months of this year, which is above the last result of 112 that was revealed at the end of 2022.

The data has been calculated from aggregated and anonymised transactions from hundreds of thousands of small businesses across the country

Rational launched a campaign earlier this year to find the oldest version of its oven currently in use as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. 

And Lorna McCarthy, officer for facilities at Cwm Taff Morgannwg University Health Board, came forward to reveal its kitchen was still using a 32 year old Combi-Dämpfer model, manufactured in February 1991.

While overall inflation appears to be stabilising – recording 6 per cent in the year to June – inflation in the services sector is still running hot at a two-decade high of 6.3 per cent.
