Oranges are Seasonal

Have ever been somewhere & there's background music, and then a song starts to play. Then you're transported back to when you first heard this song.

This happened to me last week I was at a dinner party with a group of friends.

The host had wired up Spotify account to his builtin Bose Speakers in the ceiling.

We were talking away when a joyous beat danced across the room.

A couple spontaneously started singing along. Like magic we all joined in enchanted with this curious song.

"I'll buy you one more frozen orange juice. On this fantastic day,""

I not sure about the others, but I hadn't heard this for at least 30 years.

Suddenly all memories flooded back of yesteryear.

This bright, happy song changed the mood and lifted our spirits as we remembered the so called good of days.

So what was this Song?

For some strange reason, I remember this got a lot of airplay on radios in the nineties.

Now it occurs to me that some you will not of heard this song at all.

So it's only fair, that you get to experience this wonderful song.

The song Frozen Orange Juice caused me to drift back in time to when orange juice was pure & fresh.

Growing up we had freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast.

I thought it was really cool when I was given my first Orange Drink Poppa in the Tetra pack. All you had to do was pierce the foil top with the pointing straw, and you had instant Orange Drink.

Fast forward today And the label claims to be Natural Orange Juice.

It’s rare to find Labels claiming to be Fresh Orange Juice.

When you go to Supermarket & buy Orange juice. If you believe, They just pick Oranges off the trees, then squeeze them & pour the juice into the container. Then you're in for a shock because there’s complicated process to make Orange Juice all year round.

“Navel Oranges Navels are one of the most popular orange varieties and available during the winter from June - October. They are sweet and juicy, rich in orange colour, seedless and easy to peel. They are mainly grown in three southern growing regions - the Murray Valley, the Riverina of NSW and the Riverland of South Australia.”

“Valencias Valencias are one of the most common orange varieties, and available from November to February - the summer months. They are deliciously sweet and juicy and ideal for juicing. Valencias are mainly grown in the Riverina.”

Yess I know we also import Oranges to fill in the gaps, but there never seems to be a shortage of orange drink.

The old method of freezing orange juice in concentrate was no longer popular because it didn’t taste as good.

The chemist came up with is a process called "deaeration," after the oranges are picked, & squeezed, the juice is heated to eliminate bacteria. Then the juice is stored in huge tanks from which eliminates the oxygen. They can now keep their Orange juice for a year without spoiling. You could say this process had big downside the juice lost its taste. Big Problem.

So when the orange juice is ready to be packaged for sale, they need to add, flavour packs to give it the consistent, “pure,” orangey taste.

The Juice companies hire flavour & fragrance wizards, the same ones formulating perfumes for Dior and Givenchy, to engineer flavour packs to add back to the juice to make it taste like fresh orange juice. The Orange juice, which could have been sitting around in storage for more than a year, is then pumped with these flavour packs to restore its aroma and taste.

These Flavour packs aren’t listed as an ingredient on the label because concocted oils and essences are extracted from the oranges.
