Remember, ice is a food product
If, as a result of COVID-19 you are needing to shut down an ice machine as part of your closure protocol, then please follow these instructions.
Make sure the ice machine is stripped, cleaned, sanitised and drained of all water from inside the machine, including all water inlet and drainage hoses.
This is because Commercial ice machines only freeze and make ice cubes from the purest water supplied. Any water left inside the machine or in the hoses will be full of minerals, impurity’s, sediment and scale.
Warning don't just shut down the ice machine without a thorough cleaning job as very quickly bacteria will grow in and around this stagnant water and turn to algae or slime. Yuk!
This bacteria is extremely harmful and in no time will grow and can block up your ice machine. When you re-start the machine it will suffer from a number of various problems.
Remember ice is a food product and needs to be treated as such, along with the equipment that produces it.
