A Recyclable Takeaway Coffee Cup Is Coming to a Cafe Near You

It's estimated Australians dispose of a staggering 50,000 takeaway coffee cups every 30 minutes, sending roughly a billion to landfill each year. The best – and most sustainable – remedy is to use a KeepCup or other reusable option. But Australian specialist paper manufacturer Detpak is keen to reduce the number of takeaway cups sent to the tip each year in the meantime.

Last weekend at Cooma, on my way home from Thredbo, I bumped into good friends at the same ski hire rental place. We were both returning rental skis or snowboards. We then enjoyed a coffee together before resuming our long drive back to Sydney. They had brought their own resuable coffee mugs with them for an ocassion exactly like this while I had to add to the world's pollution problems to drink mine.
