Together we can all create a future.The awards were launched in 2005 by chef and restaurateur Luke Mangan and Lucy Allon. They aim to support and encourage the next generation of hospitality leaders. While it originally began with just an award for the best young chef, its expanded over the years to now include awards for top young waiters and restaurateurs.Once again the group of judges involved reads like a who’s who of the Australian restaurant industry with the panel this year including culinary heavyweights such as Guy Grossi, Chris Taylor, Peter Gilmore, Mark Best, Christine Manfield, Philip Johnson and Tetsuya Wakuda.Luke Mangan said that the awards were more than just a competition. “The program does have a competition focus but it’s more than that,” he said.“It’s about giving these young people the opportunities to expand their knowledge, boost their confidence and give them recognition.
