It's comforting to know, when you choose a place to eat at, its meet the stringent health requirements of NSW hygiene and food safety.

Scores on Doors is the NSW hygiene and food safety scoring program displaying the results of regular inspections of food premises.

When you see the Scores on Doors Sticker on the front window, you know how well these local restaurants, takeaway shops, bakeries, pub bistros and cafés are complying with NSW hygiene and food safety requirements.

Let’s face it if we had the choice of eating food prepared in spotless clean Kitchen or our kid's messy bedrooms.

We would take clean kitchen every time & this why the Scores On Doors have taken off.

The Scores on Doors program promotes competition and encourages businesses to strive for the highest hygiene score through good hygiene and food safety practices.

This also helps reduce food safety risks and illness from food, so we can enjoy our meal with greater confidence.

Your Visible Rigorous Food Hygiene Scoring Scale

Your Visible Rigorous Food Hygiene Scoring Scale

Councils regularly assess commercial food businesses for their compliance with food safety standards.

It's a legal obligation for both Councils and food businesses helping to protect our family's health.

Scores on Doors schemes use the results of these regular food hygiene inspections to provide a rating for each food business.

In NSW the state's Food Authority promotes a scheme using three possible Star ratings for compliant businesses.

Each business is given a rating following a routine inspection by a Council Environmental Health Surveyor.

  • This is based on how well the business is meeting the requirements of food hygiene law at that time...
  • How hygienically the food is handled – safe preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage..
  • What condition the structure of the premises is in – cleanliness, repair, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities..
  • How the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe, so the officer can be confident standards will be maintained in the future..

Each of these three elements is essential to ensure that hygiene and food safety standards meet the requirements and the food served or sold to you is safe to eat.

The score is for the conditions found at the time of the last routine inspection. The rating is not for the quality of food or the standard of service the business provides.
