2. SCK News

The newsletter was a regular feature at Sydney Commercial Kitchens since May 2000 but due to the tightening of the spamming laws we had to cease emailing in 2004. While I certainly understand the need for tighter controls and for that matter am in complete agreement with these regulations I do think it is ironic that only legitimate businesses seemed to be effected. There certainly doesn't seem to be any end to the spam emails that we all receive on a daily basis.

Recently we purchased new software that will allow us to again send the newsletter and this then is our first issue.

During the last 2 years some of you may have moved on to different careers or your priorities may have changed. If this is the case with you, then please accept my apologiess for this email. You can unsubscribe by simply replying to this e-mail and putting UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line.

Desktop Reader

4. Tip of the Month

Protecting your Profit

From the beginning you must understand that your business cannot hope to succeed if you don't make a profit.

The reason you are in business is to make money. PROFIT is what you are paid from and managing your CASH FLOW is one way you protect that profit.

Right from the start you must implement systems to help protect your profit.

Your staff would not like it if you started spending their weekly wage......but if you let them order product indiscriminately then that is exactly what you are allowing them to do with your own pay.

Some Ideas to Protect Profit are:

1. Keep small expenses to a minimum.
2. Perfect the ordering system to stop casual spending.
3. Always think major expenditures through thoroughly to understand the impact on your business.

Understanding how your business is performing is a vital ingredient.

Accurate records are the best way to clearly understand if your business is succeeding, or failing.

By doing this on a weekly basis you have the ability to spot problems and implement changes before they can cause major problems.

Caf Biz will be held at Sydneys Overseas Passenger Terminal over looking picturesque Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House on Monday the 30th of October 2006.
